Stanford Professor's #1 Morning Routine
This morning routine is Dr. Huberman's top tip for more energy and better sleep.
Hi there,
Good afternoon…
This morning I applied the protocol I am about to share with you while I toasted a bagel for breakfast on my BBQ outside.
First I’ll tell you who I got the tip from: Dr. Andrew Huberman of the Huberman Lab podcast…
Andrew has a PhD and is a tenured professor at Stanford University in California…
He puts out a long form podcast / YouTube video every Monday and I never miss it.
Andrew cites proper sleep as a key component of proper mental health and all around well being….
Ironically his #1 sleep tip is something he recommends as his #1 morning protocol…
This is his number one morning routine for more energy and better sleep:
First thing in the morning get outside and expose yourself to bright light - ideally sunlight - within the first 30 to 60 seconds after waking.
This is because there are sensors within your eyes that detect the light and this triggers a cortisol release to energize you throughout the day and melatonin release, which is esentially a timer for you to fall alseep later that night.
You do not need to stare directly at the sun. Looking toward its general direction is ideal, without sunglasses.
There are literally hundreds - if not thousands - of peer reviewed papers showing that light viewing early in the day is the most powerful stimulus for wakefulness throughout the day and it has a powerful positive effect on your ability to fall and stay asleep at night.
This is the foundational power tool for ensuring a good night sleep and staying awake during the day.
So there you have it: The #1 morning protocol for helping energize your day and improve your sleep…
Apply it in your life and your energy, productivity and happiness levels will brighten up.
Try it out tomorrow morning and let me know how it goes.
Cheers,
Garin
