Good evening,
Damn it's getting cold outside...
I'm writing this in my fav spot in my favorite coffee shop and I can feel the winter chill through the window pane.
The other day Elon unsuspected Trump, Tate and other people on Twitter...
Then in the days that followed Kanye West was suspended and so was the @elon_wisdom quotes account controlled by me.
Certainly there has been no shortage of drama.
For those of you who did not see the Tiger meme Elon shared…
Speaking of balls…
Elon Musk permanently suspended my Elon Musk quotes account, I think mostly for impersonation.
This happened after Elon liked ~10 of my tweets and directly mentioned the account…
Anyways I think the rule I broke is…
“Misleading and Deceptive Identities: You may not impersonate individuals, groups, or organizations to mislead, confuse, or deceive others, nor use a fake identity in a manner that disrupts the experience of others on Twitter.”
Because the last tweet I posted before the ban was not a quote, it was a poll.
It did not directly specify the tweet was not posted by Elon, and it should have.
Certainly Elon was not joking when he posted about how an account directly needs to claim it is a parody account...
This is where I dropped the ball.
Also I posted a Black Friday graphic promoting Elonology that was created in a rush and in retrospect it was in bad taste…
I have learned from the mistakes - filed an appeal - and started a new Elon quotes account, which is more obviously a parody account.
Check out my new Twitter Elon Musk account @ElonsBeard.
If you want to avoid the fate of my first Elon Musk quotes account my best advice is this: Read and abide by the Twitter rules.
Even Elon’s friend Kanye is not above them…
Even Elon’s biggest fan (me) is not above them…
If you break the rules your account might be suspended without warning.
Anyways, the Twitter suspension drama I personally experienced sheds light on how Elon exerts influence...
There are two main styles of getting what you want in the world:
The carrot and the stick.
In 2019 Elon said this about them:
When Elon's parents broke up Elon chose to live with his father Errol, who was an Engineer.
Errol was a member of the South African army and because of this became accustomed to the disciplined lifestyle of a soldier.
Errol has a YouTube channel called Dad of a Genius and I have seen every video to get a better understanding of his dynamic with Elon.
Errol said when he raised Elon his word was the law…
Elon has said about Errol that his method of fatherhood was more stick than carrot.
It seems Elon is sometimes inclined towards the stick style of influence as well...
This is what Elon has to say about it.
“Major Twitter system improvements were implemented this week to drop hammer hard on spam/scam accounts.”
Not sure if this had anything to do with me as my tweets were largely value driven and rarely promotional.
Elon Musk even liked ~10 tweets and even mentioned the @elon_wisdom account directly…
Perhaps he was not responsible for the ban and it was executed without his involvement.
The Tweet Elon sent my (now suspended) account said "Excessive respect for authority inhibits innovation."
It netted over 40k likes.
And although I see where Elon was coming from…
It seems to me lack of respect for Elon's Twitter authority and rules increases the odds of suspension...
Oh the irony…
Irony Man strikes again.
The recent Twitter suspensions and unsuspension’s seem to me to be symptom of Elon finding his footing as the new de facto Emperor of Free Speech…
We all must understand what Elon’s etymological understanding of Free Speech is…
And his actions over time will better reveal what is allowed and what is not.
It seems to me freedom of speech is not free…
I asked a Police officer if freedom of speech exists and his answer was “not really.”
Speaking freely and throwing caution to the wind is indeed dangerous…
And freedom of speech does not mean freedom of reach...
It does not mean freedom to promote hate or violence towards others.
Despite the pain of losing my Elon account I am hopeful for the future and the future of free speech…
In Elon Musk I trust.
I’ll make wiser decisions about what I post on Twitter in the future.
And I really need to stop drinking and tweeting.
Currently I am on an alcohol cleanse and I plan to maintain it for as long as possible…
If / when I do drink my plan is to not use Twitter…
That might be the best piece of advice about not getting suspended from Twitter I can give: Don’t drink and tweet!
Sober Twitter is way better…
Today is my 14th anniversary of being on Twitter…
